The Damgate Experience
This is a break from the every day life of the city treating you to the tranquillity of the beautiful countryside and an opportunity to learn where food comes from and different production methods.
The experience is a two-night break and studies livestock husbandry and the beauty of limestone walls.
Arrive Sunday afternoon for tea and scones
Tour of the farm and discussion about livestock and grassland husbandry. Look at the Old Lime Kiln and a site of scientific interest on the farm
Meal at local hostelry using local produce (payable locally)
Breakfast of local produce
Visit to the famous Bakewell market where the original pudding is still made followed by a trip to Chatsworth farm shop to buy your evening meal.
Back to the farm for a guided tour of the Manifold and Dovedale valleys
Cook the food together for supper.
Take a taste test challenge at breakfast – supermarket versus local produce – and see if you can tell the difference.
Learn how to make a dry limestone wall.
Lunch and say good-bye
Damgate farm is a small family farm, in which Brian has been involved for the past forty years. Brian has worked in the agricultural industry as a farmer and nutritional advisor and would enjoy sharing his home and knowledge with you.
So why not take a break and relax in one of the most beautiful parts of Britain whilst learning new skills and more about how food is produced.
